Germaine Van Parys - Het Belgisch (on-)verwerkt verleden

De foto’s die Germaine Van Parys achterliet en die op de tentoonstelling te zien zullen zijn (en aangevuld met foto’s uit het oeuvre van haar petekind Odette Dereze, ook fotojournalist) trekken een spoor door meer dan een halve eeuw geschiedenis.

Ze leiden ons naar de wereld van de pers, de politiek, Belgisch Congo, de reclame, de kunst, de mondaine Brusselse warenhuizen, de cultuurwereld, de mode, de bedrijven, maar ook naar WO II, en bovendien maakt ze ons ooggetuige van het leven en de dood van de koninklijke familie.

Ze focuste met haar nieuwsgierige blik op de onderwerpen van de dag en fixeerde tegelijkertijd haar foto’s dampend in het bad van de eeuwige thema’s die ons vandaag ontroeren en raken als een pijl door ons menselijk hart.
Haar foto’s vormen een beeldende journalistieke kroniek van dromen, verdriet en vreugde, niet gedateerd en tegelijkertijd confronterend voor de kijker met het Belgisch (on-)verwerkt verleden.

De tentoonstelling met zijn beklijvende foto’s slalomt ons doorheen een jarenlang verborgen fotoarchief van een zelfstandige fotografe die zich bekommerde om een spannend beeld op het juiste moment
Nu zien we de foto’s in het licht, mysterieus en krachtig. Net zo echt en verrassend als de persoonlijkheid van Germaine Van Parys zelf.
