Odette Dereze - le minimalisme

Son œuvre est traditionnelle, précisément parce dès les prémices de sa carrière de photographe, on retrouve chez elle cette recherche de l’équilibre entre esthétique et qualités journalistiques.
Elle profite de son travail pour réaliser des photos d’événements survenus le jour même en vue de leur publication dans le journal du lendemain.

Cet exercice, elle s’y adonne dans un cadre unique, où elle déploie tout son talent créatif grâce à la formation personnelle qu’elle a suivie sous l’aile de sa marraine Germaine Van Parys. 

Son œuvre est moderne, car la tendance contemporaine dans le photojournalisme de la génération actuelle est résolument à l’esthétisation, et fait davantage passer un message en évoquant une ambiance à l’aide de moyens photographiques qu’en exposant purement et simplement les faits. La conviction qu’il est toujours possible de restituer les faits n’est pas une caractéristique propre au style d’Odette Dereze.

Il s’agit d’un trait partagé par une génération tout entière, pour qui la modernité est synonyme de foi en la science et en son objectivité. Un appareil photo était avant tout considéré comme un instrument scientifique.

Les membres de sa génération ont chacun juré allégeance à la réalité des faits. Chaque photo se fait l’écho d’une ode à l’objectivisme.
